Vintage Rosewood Mortise Marking Gauge Tool

Description

This is a vintage mortise marking gauge. Brass and rosewood. Small split in the wood near the pin end. Wooden adjusting thumbscrew. Owners name (Freeman) on the square end.
This was in my late father's tools. He was a wooden sailboat and mast builder/rigger in Connecticut. Freeman was a friend of his and no doubt gave him this mortise marking gauge. As much as we like having it for the memories it brings, it would be better to have a collector have it. An interesting piece although I have no idea how it was used.
